Milford High School Spring Track

The Milford High track teams finished an outstanding season with four individual state championships over the weekend at Polytech High School. Plus, the boys finished third out of 15 teams, while the girls finished sixth.
Senior Kathy Darling started the weekend by setting a state meet record of 138 feet, 8 inches to win her third straight discus title, while junior Amanda Davis earned a fifth place toss.
Then on Saturday, the boys 4 by 200 meter relay
team of Alvin White, Vincent Leggins, DePriest Walker and Robbie Drummond
proved they were the best in the state pulling an upset win in 1:32.5.
Later, Drummond and Walker teamed with Keyvin Payne and Jason Hickman to
pull another upset win in the 4 by 100 with a 44.39. Finally, sophomore
Jessica
Rivera scored a state title in the 3200 meters
in a time of 12 minutes flat.
Runner-up champs included senior Billy Haines in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:35, Dan Wiegman who jumped a 12-6 in the pole vault, and Amanda Davis who tossed the shot put 31 feet, 8 inches. Drummond also took third in the 100 meters, White took third in the 300 hurdles, and Rivera placed third in the mile.
Other top six place winners from Milford included the boys’ 4 by 800 team of Ken Brown, Jacob Barr, Bobby O’Neill and Haines who placed fifth in a season best time of 8:40 . . . the girls’ 4 by 800 team of Erin Williams, Lee Watson, Clarice Smith, and Rivera who placed sixth in a season-best time of 10:58 . . . the girls team of Jessica Watson, Mia Watson, Clarice Smith, and Xaneshea McDonald who placed fourth in the 4 by 100 in a season bes time of 53.1 and placed sixth in the 4 by 200 in a season-best time of 1:52.5 . . . the boys’ 4 by 400 team of Brown, White, O’Neill and Vincent Leggins who placed sixth in a season-best time of 3:41 . . . and the girls’ 4 by 400 team of Julia Conley, Clarice Smith, Sarah Ziccarelli, and Lee Watson who placed sixth in a season-best time of 4:40. Kevin Brown placed fourth in the pole vault with a 11-6 and Haines also picked up a sixth place with a career-best time of 4:45 in the mile.
In all, over 30 Milford athletes participated
in the state meet. With only seven of those athletes graduating, the teams
look forward to another great year next spring.
