Highlighting a successful season for both the
girls and boys cross country teams, senior Billy Haines
capped a splendid cross country career at Milford
High with his best performance ever at
Saturday’s state meet. Haines ran a 17:06
to place fourth in the Division II meet. His time ranks him
as Milford’s best distance runner in the ‘90s
and third best on the all-time list.
Sophomore Jessica Rivera scored similar accolades
on Saturday as she recorded a career best time
of 20:59 which puts her second on Milford’s all-time
list behind Melody Rudd. It also earned her a
ninth-place finish in the meet.
Overall, the girls finished 11th out of 20 teams while the boys finished 8th.
Bobby O’Neill also led a great senior finish for
the boys by recording his best time this season, an
18:20. Steve Germann, Jacob Barr, Brandon Miller,
David Ober, and Ben Wynne rounded out
Milford’s competitors.
For the girls, Heather Rudd, Amanda Schatz, Erin
Williams, Alicia Robinson and Sarah Ziccarelli
teamed with Rivera. Barr and Williams earned
Trailblazer of the Week honors for their hard
work this season.
